Creating Consistent

Creating Consistency

creating consistentMy husband and I sit down for half an hour every night after the kids go to bed, share prayer requests, and pray for each other.

Lovely, right?

The truth is my husband and I sit down for half an hour every night after the kids go to bed, share prayer requests, and pray for each other for 4 days then “something” gets in the way and we don’t. Then we don’t do it the next day and before we know it two weeks have slipped by us, 3 months are gone never to return, and then someone waves the prayer journal at the other and we sit down for half an hour every night after the kids go to bed, share prayer requests, and pray for each other until the next obstacle zaps me from the regularity of daily prayer with my spouse.

Currently on my priority list is “Being Consistent”. I have till the end of January to achieve that or it will be remaining on my priority list for February-April.  Odds are on it remaining on my list.

You see I desire somewhere in me to be consistent, steady, even, stable, dependable, and reliable in multiple areas of my life. But there is something about that quality that is eluding me…that I can’t stay holding onto.

Since I am watching myself flop like a fish out of water when it comes to reaching this priority I have decided to invest some time in digging at myself.

What about consistency is throwing me for a loop?

And then BAM! it hit me as I stared at the word and the definition of the word. (Amazing what happens when we take the time to actually think about something rather than try to wish it into existence.)

Consistency sounds BORING!!!

No fun.

Like four walls in the shape of a square.

Like spicy chicken with no spice.

Like an accountant or someone who likes numbers.

AND I don’t want to be any of that! Ewwwww….yuck!

I am creative, free, adventurous, spontaneous, and so much more dynamic than consistent…or at least I would like to be.

Sooooo I realized what is eluding me is my perspective on the word. I have put it in a box and given it no room to wiggle. I have made it a necessary evil rather than a tool that will help me thrive.

I am now on a quest to give consistency a make-over. To make it hip, cool, liberating, the new pantone color of the season. When I am done with it consistent will be stunning!
