Motherhood/Parenting

You are…IMPERFECT!

You are . . . imperfect!
And (this is the good part), it’s okay!!!
I read a quote not long ago attributed to a pastor in North Carolina by the name of Steven Furtick.  He said, “The reason we struggle with insecurity is because we compare our behind-the-scenes with everyone else’s highlight reel.”  I know I do this!  Do you ever have thoughts like, “I bet she never loses her temper with her kids.”  Or, “She probably never has disagreements with her husband.”  “I’m sure shenever skips her morning quiet time.”
Comparing myself to other women is certainly part of my insecurity problem.  But another part of the problem, I have come to realize, is that I make my own “highlight reel” too good for myself to live up to!  Instead of striving to project an image of “I have it all together,” I need to be honest with other moms and admit that a lot of times I’m just an impatient, running late, frazzled mess.

God did not choose Mary to be the mother of His Son Jesus because she was perfect, but because she was a woman after His own heart.  He chose a simple, humble girl to bear the Savior of the world.  “God chose the foolish things of this world to shame the wise; God chose the weak things of this world to shame the strong.  He chose the lowly things of this world and the despised things…so that no one may boast before him.”  I Corinthians 1:27
God is glorified when He takes a weak, imperfect being such as myself and accomplishes great things through me.  The things I’m accomplishing right now may not be “great” by wordly standards – honoring my husband, teaching my children to love Jesus, instilling a heart of service within them – but they are great in His eyes when they are done for His glory.  And I don’t do it perfectly every day.  But when I am really honest with myself, I realize that no one else does either.
And that’s okay.
