Hope in a handbag!
What lady doesn’t love a fabulous bag???? Especially, a bag that is filled with hope and promise for new life!!!
I am so excited to be participating in 12 days of Freedom again.
Freeset is in business for freedom. Freedom from human trafficking. Freeset is a fair trade business that sells bags and t-shirts, made by women freed from human trafficking in Calcutta, India. The women are able to have a job with dignity, making products, instead of being the product. Every woman receives three times the wage they would receive in line (the prostitution line), learn to read and write, daycare for their children, have medical insurance and retirement benefits. Women were tricked, trapped, or trade and find themselves seemingly without a choice. Our goal is to change the economic scope of Sonagacchi, Calcutta’s largest red light district, to one of freedom, instead of the sex trade. Watch our video, shop our bags, change lives
Here are words from one of their new ladies in training.
“On my very first day when I started training everyone welcomed me and made me feel comfortable. It hasn’t been easy but I’m getting better. I love printing, but I’m new so I don’t get to do it often because I still make mistakes. If I print for too long I get sore hands and make a lot of rejects! I still have more to learn… “
What I appreciate in her words is that while it is hard you can hear a glimpse of hope in her voice. And already, 10 new women are being trained to work at Freeset this month!
I love, love, love all their bags and have touched and felt every product. They are all so well made. I used them as gift wrapping last year. Didn’t hurt trees and made a difference in a life all at the same time!
This is the Andrea Moore Cluster bag. You can buy it here. I love their box bags for wrapping and personally love, love my Hope bag!
You can do all your Freeset shopping right here. And I just have to say Cravings would fit really well right inside one of these sweet bags! :)
